Digital collectibles platform NBA Top Shot is expanding to include WNBA highlights, with the first WNBA pack scheduled to drop Aug. 27. Dapper Labs, the creator of Top Shot, announced a partnership this morning with the WNBA and its players association.

OneTeam Partners, the licensing firm co-founded by the NFLPA and MLBPA, negotiated the partnership on behalf of the WNBPA. The blockchain-backed Top Shot marketplace will let fans buy and sell NFTs of in-game WNBA highlights that span both current players and retired legends such as Lisa Leslie.

“We have been at the forefront of innovation in many respects and partnering with Dapper Labs on Top Shot allows us to highlight the talent and incredible performances of WNBA players in a heightened way through a digital experience,” WNBA chief operating officer Christy Hedgpeth said in a statement.

Top Shot has recorded more than $700 million in sales and one million users over the past year. Dapper’s head of partnerships Caty Tedman previously detailed Top Shot’s interest in adding WNBA moments when she spoke at SportTechie’s State Of The Industry conference in March, during which she mentioned the possibility of collaborating with the NFL on digital collectibles.

“When we think about the kind of products that we would build with other partners, we think about customizing it for those fan bases. We can’t just slap NFL players on NBA Top Shot and make it work. If you think about the NFL, they don’t always do it first, but they try to do it best,” Tedman said in March.
