When Jack Centner was just 10 years old, he decided to start a sports podcast with a close family friend at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Two years later, the podcast he started with his co-host Kevin Stavely — a close friend of Jack’s father Matt Centner whom Jack calls “Uncle Kevin” — is still going strong.
Jack, now 12, is making a name for himself as a kid with a podcast that’s featured interviews with some big-time stars in sports and sports broadcasting including an elite NFL running back, a World Series-winning pitcher, current and former Denver Broncos and well-known names in professional wrestling among others.
“It was the right place, wrong time to start a podcast,” Jack said of launching the show during the pandemic.
Jack and Staley recently celebrated the two-year anniversary of “The Paradox of Sports” podcast, which has nearly 5,000 followers on YouTube and more than 1,700 on Twitter.
One of the podcast’s interviews even became a viral sensation, gathering over 1 million views.

Jack wanted to start the podcast to share his love of all things sports. During the pandemic, he, his dad, and Stavely have lined up interviews with sports stars for quick chats to be broadcast on the show.
Guests who’ve appeared include Los Angeles Chargers running back Austin Ekeler, WWE and All Elite Wrestling star Vickie Guerrero, three-time World Series champion Curt Schilling, and former ESPN commentator Michele Tafoya.
“I remember the time that we interviewed Vickie Guerrero and she yelled ‘Excuse me!’” Jack recalled, referring to Guerrero’s famous catchphrase. “It was awesome,” he said.
One of the biggest interviews the podcast has featured was with Jon Moxley, a professional AEW wrestler.
While at an event, Jack caught up with Moxley and spoke with him about getting payback against fellow AEW star Kenny Omega. The short, one-minute clip has since been viewed more than 1.1 million times.
“The one with Moxley was nuts,” Matt said. “Over a million views, that was unreal.”
While the podcast has already enjoyed some impressive successes since its humble beginnings, the trio says there’s still more to come.
Jack and Stavely hope to produce new episodes as frequently as possible and have their sights set on other major names in sports as future guests.
One NFL Super Bowl-winning quarterback, in particular, is on top of Jack’s list.
“The person I would love to interview the most would be Patrick Mahomes,” Jack said.
Lining up new guests has been a bit of a challenge, but that’s where Jack’s father Matt comes into play.
Matt, a former employee for KLMR radio who currently works with KKTV, uses his network of resources to search for new and exciting guests to have on the show.
The show likes to feature local athletes, coaches, or major sports figures that have ties to Pueblo or Colorado in general.
“I just want to keep it as long-running as possible,” Jack said. “I don’t want there to be a long period of time without an episode. I just want to try to be consistent and see how far along we can go with this.”
