Tri-City Sports Complex in Auburn, Michigan, collapses in wind storm

Dome-shaped indoor facility closed until further notice

The 65-foot-high Tri-City Sports Complex in Auburn, used as an indoor sports facility by many teams in the Great Lakes Bay Region, is closed until further notice after apparently collapsing in the heavy wind storm that went through the area late Saturday.

The 73,500-square foot facility on Garfield Road just south of US-10 is known by many people simply as the “Tri-City Dome” because of its shape. It opened in 2014 and is used for football, baseball, softball, lacrosse and soccer, drawing people from as far away as Traverse City and Ohio. It is also rented for events and parties.

“Our complex has been affected by the major storm last night,” reads a message posted on the facililty’s Facebook page Sunday afternoon. “Effective immediately, we are closed until further notice. To all teams that have paid for tournaments, rental times, etc., you will be contacted in the short term for refunds. Unfortunately, Mother Nature was not kind to the area last night… very sorry to all the organizations who have supported us and continue to support us.”
